Every fall, I call an HVAC technician to come out to my house to do a routine inspection. It requires me to pay a small service charge, but it’s worth every penny in my opinion. I do this because I want to make sure that my heater is in top shape before the temperatures drop below freezing. My HVAC technician is always able to help me troubleshoot any issues before they cause the heater to break down altogether. I started doing this several years ago after suffering the coldest week of my life. It all started when I came home from work to find that my heater wouldn’t turn on. I instantly called the HVAC company, but because they were so backed up, they weren’t able to make it to me for seven days! As the snow was falling and the temperatures dropped, I was forced to spend the week with nothing but a small space heater and some extra blankets. Boy oh boy did I come to appreciate my heater more than I ever had! Space heaters are good for compact spaces, but they are no substitute for an HVAC unit. When I finally got my heater up and running again, I vowed to have an inspection done every single fall. This is the best way to prevent any major issues during the coldest months of the year. I will continue to abide by this strategy religiously because there is no way that I am going to go another week without my heating system if I can do anything whatsoever to avoid it.
