I recently was required to call for repair on our HVAC system. The cooling system had been struggling for quite some time, and I should have instantly called for service. Because I was tied up at work and reluctant to spend the time and money on repair, I procrastinated until the HVAC system quit entirely. The cooling system failed in the middle of the night on a holiday weekend. To avoid paying overtime charges, I waited until normal business hours to contact the local HVAC company. Apparently, a lot of people were have trouble with their A/C, because the HVAC business was completely booked for two full weeks. Living without A/C when the outside temperature was regularly in the upper eighties and humid, was not pleasant. I tried opening all of the windows and running box fans to assist with circulation, however our new home was horribly overheated and sticky. I couldn’t fall asleep at night, and was regularly hot. At that point, I would have paid almost anything for a working A/C unit. When the HVAC specialist finally showed up and diagnosed the A/C problem, he told me that several parts needed to be replaced. Because he didn’t have access to these parts and had to order them, I was forced to wait several more weeks for the A/C to be fixed. The whole experience was severely inconvenient, frustrating and expensive. It all could have been avoided if I would have called the HVAC service earlier. From now on, if I notice even the slightest issue with the HVAC system, I will call for service instantly.
